Mom update
Mom called -- tests show no cancer but "several" ulcers. :) & :(

Her docs think this may be a result of her years-long aspirin therapy for heart problems.

Mom said, "So -- I think I need to get my heart doctors and stomach doctors in one room and ask them what I'm supposed to do!"

Go, Mom.

Ulcers are no fun, but I'm glad it's not cancer. I wish her the best!

Thank you! She's a very tough lady -- she's been through more in her life than most of us could ever imagine.

Thanks. Yeah, the speed of the diagnosis was a good thing. Apparently, what they saw when they looked in no way resembled cancer, though they did take some cells for a biopsy, just in case.

my mom had the exact same thing--except hers was bleeding, and she passed out and threw up blood while on vacation. NOT fun--but after some meds, she was fine.

Wow -- that sounds traumatic!

Mom said that she'd just been experiencing a lot of nausea and bloating. She said, "It felt like I was pregnant again -- and I KNOW I'm not pregnant!"

glad the news is (mostly) good. i hope the docs do come up with some concensus that eliminates her ulcers. (she might be able to get them to do a phone conference)

Thank you! Hey -- a conference by phone is a very good idea!

Mom's care is tricky -- she's exhibited severe reactions to a lot of different medications. She suspects that may be related to...some things that were done to her when she was a child, when she was in Auschwitz (and I know that I haven't written anything about that, yet.)

Well that's good news! Other than the ulcers, anyway.

I know! You've met her, you know -- she seems indestructible to me. I have to keep reminding myself that that's not true, so I won't be completely sideswiped when she's no longer around.

I'm glad you didn't have to wait long to find out.

I know that aspirin makes the stomach bleed, so if I have to use it, I use the enteric-coated kind. Doesn't help that I have a genetic predispositon to ulcers, thanks to my high-strung grandfather.

Yeah, the speed was good for all. It surprised me, too. Apparently, what the doctors saw on the scope-y thing in no way resembled cancer, though they did take some cells to biopsy, just to be sure.

Mom *has* been taking aspirin daily with her doctor's knowledge -- I'd assume it would be the type to limit stomach side-effects, but I don't really know.

Mom is a high-strung type, too, in case that wasn't already apparent from the ulcers and heart trouble. Though I also consider myself high-strung, I tend to take after my healthier, lazier dad -- we both love our doin' nothing time, and our sleep!, while Mom is the type who always has to do three things at once.
